I established my practice in Pearcy, Arkansas, 25 years ago, cherishing the autonomy that comes with being a practice owner. This independence has allowed me to channel my energies into neuro-optometry, a field I am deeply passionate about. As a neuro-optometrist, I assist patients with a wide array of conditions, including concussions, strokes, traumatic brain injuries, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, ADHD, and autism. The scope of our work is vast, and the improvements we can make in a patient's cognitive abilities and overall quality of life are profound.
One of the significant advantages of private practice is the freedom to choose our partners—partners like VSP Vision. Over the years, VSP has been instrumental in supporting our practice by enhancing patient flow, aiding in business development, and providing staff training. Being part of VSP Premier Edge has significantly boosted our bottom line through substantial rebates and increased visibility. And, our patients appreciate the value they receive with their VSP benefits, including VSP’s comprehensive medical eye care program, which is crucial for a medically focused practice like ours.
Wanting to not only maximize this partnership but to share its value with other ODs, I decided to become a VSP Ambassador. In our ever-evolving profession, there can be a lot of confusion and misinformation that many ODs don’t have the time to navigate. As an Ambassador, I can be a conduit between VSP and my colleagues in Arkansas, ensuring clear communication and accurate information dissemination. I’m able to have direct conversations with VSP to obtain clarification and facts, which I then share with other optometrists to help them make informed decisions. My ambassador role also enables me to relay the concerns and questions of optometrists in the field to VSP, facilitating necessary adjustments and improvements.
As a VSP Ambassador, I get to interact with wonderful individuals both within our optometric community and at VSP. VSP genuinely cares about private practice and is committed to our success. In fact, their Board of Directors includes more optometrists than non-optometrists. This, along with the Ambassador program, ensures that practicing ODs have a significant voice in decisions affecting our practices and patients. Both personally and professionally, my mission is to assist anyone who reaches out to me, valuing relationships over material possessions. As Eye See It, being an Ambassador allows me to support my colleagues; being a private practice owner enables me to care for my staff and patients; and being a compassionate human being lets me extend help to friends, family, and everyone in between.
